Editor's letter
The inaugural issue of Worn, Whering's first digital and IRL zine, was shepherded by the former Head of Editorial Content at Glamour magazine (with work seen in gal-dem, Dazed, i-D, Vogue, GQ). Here she tells us what's inside.
You know that feeling where you walk over a bridge in the centre of the capital (let’s say Waterloo) on an evening when the air is charged, and you drink in the city skyline – our filthy river, our mishmash of modern monuments contrasting with storied historical architecture, and its characters, and you just clock it for a second. London is incredible. You may get the same pang walking down Rye Lane or Dalston High Street when the light hits a beautiful hipster in a majestic way, and you’re struck in awe by the natural style and beauty of this metropolis. They, along with the fashion industry machine, make London a style capital.
Fashion, like London, is a cruel mistress at times, but her grit, her pace, and the constant influx of new hungry talent mean she’s never boring, with a resilient underground scene and juggernaut houses that influence style worldwide. While fashion contributes £62 billion to the UK economy, the creative heartbeat of this industry – its designers, stylists, writers, photographers, and models – is what makes it magical.
Speaking to former collaborators and people I am a fan of was such a joy for this issue. Whering is a record of your personal style and it helps you keep track of the clothes that inspire you. Together, we’ve taken that ethos and brought readers behind the scenes of the season and, hopefully, given you inspiration to curate your own unique, storied closet via my favourite fashionistas. Whering’s first zine is a shrine to London fashion, from the POV of titans and those working their way up, insiders and those on its periphery.
